Outside the Not So Big House

Julie Moir Messervy

Join Julie Moir Messervy as she removes traditional design barriers between home and its surroundings to produce a unified design – the landscape of home. As featured in her new book, Outside the Not So Big House, written in partnership with architect Sarah Susanka, Julie’s groundbreaking approach helps homeowners, gardeners and professionals explore ways to embrace the habitat of home, compose journeys, link inside to out, and craft the elements of nature, extending the presence of home out onto the land.

Tree Disease Management: Making Informed Choices

George Hudler

Of the hundreds, perhaps thousands of diseases that affect landscape trees, only a few pose serious threats to overall tree health and survival. Most of the others temporarily diminish the aesthetic value of a particular specimen, but may not warrant corrective action. George Hudler will provide guidelines for identifying the real threats, and provide the biological rationale for minimal management of “nuisance” problems.

The Forest and the Trees

Ann Fowler Rhoads

Ann Fowler Rhoads will trace the fascinating history of Pennsylvania’s forests, which used to cover 95% of the state, from descriptions of the earliest European settlers, through the impact of Native American and European cultural practices, to hopeful recovery of our state forest treasure.
